Fuengirola is located half way between Málaga and Marbella and is only 25kms from the international airport, which makes it a perfect choice for anyone who needs to fly frequently. Indeed, when you live here, you don’t even need to make the 15-minute drive to the airport, as there is a train line from the town with a stop directly outside the airport entrance.
Fuengirola has developed over the years from a small, Spanish fishing village to a popular tourist destination thanks to its six kilometres of sandy beaches, its beautiful promenade and its hundreds of restaurants and bars representing a cosmopolitan array of cuisines.
The Port and Marina area offers a range of leisure services including fishing and dolphin charters and a ferry service to the neighbouring town of Benalmadena. Fuengirola’s attractions include the award winning Bioparc, where animals are housed in natural surroundings rather than cages, and there is a really popular waterpark as well.
Fuengirola is also known for its shopping. It has a good mix of high street names, such as Mango and Zara, alongside designer clothes stores and local boutiques, with many of the shops located around Plaza de la Constitución and on the promenade, near the beach. The nearby Miramar shopping Mall has a host of stores, as well as a cinema and plentiful parking.
And it has its historical sites, such as the famous Sohail Castle, where many international musicians perform, a bridge that dates back to the Moors and the beautiful Nuestra Señora del Rosario Coronada church located in the Plaza de la Constitución, and a local history museum.
